Celia was always laughing and full of funny stories. When she was due to visit Clifford in New York her boat, a small Dutch liner, was hit by a force nine gale. Everybody on board was sick, apart from Celia, who vowed "my father was a sailor!" and refused to be seasick. She and her travelling companion went on deck to play a game of "tag" and Celia's dentures were wrenched out of her mouth by a particularly strong burst of wind. She managed to catch them before they disappeared overboard. She was determined not to meet her husband in America after several weeks at sea without a full set of choppers! (Ros Cooke).
